“I don't think it affects the cricket too much”: Jos Buttler on BCCI’s new guidelines limiting players’ time with families on overseas tours
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently introduced new guidelines aimed at limiting the time players spend with their families during lengthy overseas tours. Voicing his opinion on the issue, England’s white-ball captain, Jos Buttler, feels that it is really important for players to have their families with them during international tours. Buttler stressed the importance of family support in maintaining players' mental and emotional stability.
Post India’s disastrous 1-3 series defeat against Australia during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, BCCI issued strict guidelines. The new policy also included limiting the amount of time players spend with their families. According to new guidelines, family members can only spend two weeks with the teams on a tour that exceeds 45 days.
"I think it's important. We live in a day and age now, which is a very modern world, and I think it's great to be able to have families on the tour with you and try and enjoy that. There's a lot of cricket, people spend a long time away from home, and I think post-COVID all that's been highlighted as well. Absolutely, I don't think it affects the cricket too much," Buttler said during the press conference aead of 1st T20I vs India.
Buttler also maintained that it is really manageable as well. Meanwhile, the first T20I between India and England will be played on Wednesday at Eden Gardens.
"I think it's something that is very manageable. Personally, from my point of view, I think it's really important to try and be able to share that with your family and lighten the load on being away from home," he explained.
