There has been a series of discussions surrounding the potential inclusion of mystery spinner Varun Chakaravarthy in India’s squad for the upcoming Champions Trophy. His recent performances in the T20I series against England have also earned him a spot in India’s ODI squad for the England series.

And, moreover he has positioned himself as a strong contender for the prestigious tournament. Speaking on Chakaravarthy, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma didn’t rule out the possibility of Varun’s inclusion in India’s Champions Trophy squad.

“Yeah look, he has certainly shown something different. I understand that it is a T20 format but he has clearly got something different about him. So we just wanted to have an option and see what we can do with him,” Rohit Sharma said during the media interaction ahead of first ODI vs England.

“Clearly during the series it presents us an opportunity to play him at some stage and see what he is capable of. Right now we are not thinking about whether we are going to take him or not but definitely he will be in contention. If things plan out really well for us and he does what is required then definitely there is something that we need to think about,” the Indian skipper added.

Chakaravarthy returned as the highest wicket-taker in the recently-concluded T20I series against England, claiming 14 wickets from five innings. Champions Trophy, on the other hand, is scheduled to commence on February 19, 2025, in Pakistan and the UAE. India will kick off their campaign against Bangladesh on February 20.
