Jacob Bethell set to be ruled out of Champions Trophy

Following a hamstring injury, England batter Jacob Bethell is set to be ruled out of the upcoming Champions Trophy. This is a big setback for England, given Bethell’s competitive all-round abilities. Bethell had scored a crucial half-century in England’s first ODI against India, but he remained absent from England’s second ODI against India in the ongoing three-match series. England have called up Tom Banton as cover for Bethell. He is set to arrive in India on Monday. Jamie Smith, who was nursing a calf injury, is expected to be fit for the third ODI.
"I'm pretty sure he's been ruled out of the Champions Trophy, to be honest. That's really disappointing for him, obviously he played nicely the other day and has been one of the really exciting players so it's a shame that the injury is going to rule him out,” England skipper Jos butler said.
Bethell was in massive form in the first ODI against India, registering a score of 51. He also claimed a wicket. Meanwhile, England will commence their Champions Trophy campaign on February 22 with the clash against Australia.
