"There is a lot of pressure on him”: Anil Kumble on KL Rahul

In the Champions Trophy semi-final match against Australia, Indian batter KL Rahul played a controlled but aggressive innings, hitting crucial 42 off 34 to guide India over the line. KL Rahul came to bat after Axar Patel, who made 27 in his 44-run partnership with Virat Kohli to lead India's recovery after early losses. Meanwhile, Rahul, coming at No. 6, remained unbeaten, demonstrating utmost awareness to see India home. But, former Indian spinner Anil Kumble feels that there is always an unnecessary pressure on KL Rahul. However, Kumble maintained that Rahul's innings against Australia will give him a lot of confidence.
"He (Rahul) should have come ahead of Axar Patel. I know Axar did a good job of getting that partnership with Virat Kohli but someone like KL Rahul coming in at that stage and this is what he can do - if he gets to 30, he will ensure that you cross the line. He does that and he does that consistently. Yes, he missed out on one opportunity in the last game against New Zealand, but otherwise KL is a class act. This will certainly give him a lot of confidence,” Kumble said on ESPNcricinfo.
"There is a lot of pressure on him. If he does well, it's expected. If he fails even in one innings, suddenly the whole world comes after him. He had pressure, even with his keeping in the last game, but today he showed what he is capable of."
India have now reached the final of the tournament where they will either play South Africa or New Zealand as both sides are set to lock horns in the semi-final 2 on Wednesday at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.
