“I’m not going to retire from ODIs”: Rohit Sharma

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma has officially confirmed that he is not retiring from ODI cricket. Having led India to the Champions Trophy title win, Rohit clarified that he does not have any immediate plans to step away from the 50-over format. India beat New Zealand in final on Sunday in Dubai to win the Champions Trophy title, ending their 12-year ODI title drought.

"I'm not going to retire from this format, just to make sure that no rumours are spread going forward," Rohit said during the post-match press conference. 

Rohit Sharma praised the team’s boisterous performance and highlighted the depth in the team. Meanwhile, India went into the Champions Trophy final as the undefeated side, winning all of their group stage games. This is India’s second ICC title after clinching the T20I World Cup title last year. 

"That's a great, great milestone to have, honestly speaking. That speaks to the kind of team this is. I know we didn't win the ODI World Cup and lost that final. But then we went to the T20 World Cup and didn't lose a single game. We went on to win the trophy here as well.

"That shows the quality in the team. A lot of depth. A lot of understanding within the group. A lot of enjoyment. A lot of excitement. And that is how we want to play our cricket. That's what we had spoken before the tournament began. There's too much pressure from the outside. If one game, India loses, or the match goes here and there, there's so much speculation that happens.

"But the boys and the team have actually managed to put that aside, and just focused on how to win games and how to enjoy the game. That's been the most important aspect of our game in the last two or three years that we've been here."
