“I called MS Dhoni for my 100th Test”: R Ashwin

Indian legend Ravichandran Ashwin, who bowed out of international cricket following the third Test match between India and Australia during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy last year in December, will now be seen in action for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the upcoming edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. He is returning to CSK after a gap of 10 years. Over the past few years, Ashwin represented various franchises such as Rajasthan Royals, Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals.
Recently, speaking at an event, Ashwin stated that he wanted to retire after playing his 100th Test, which he played against England in Dharamshala in 2024. He even revealed that he had invited legendary MS Dhoni for his 100th Test match, however, Dhoni couldn’t make it. Meanwhile, Ashwin thanked MS Dhoni for bringing him back to CSK.
“I called MS Dhoni for my 100th Test in Dharamshala to hand over the memento. I wanted to make that my last Test. But he couldn’t make it. However, I didn’t think he would give me the gift of getting me back to CSK. It’s a much better one. So, thank you, MS, for doing it. I’m glad to be here,” said Ashwin during a book launch event on Sunday.
"Most importantly, I have come back to CSK not as someone who has achieved so much but as someone who has gone through the full circle and wants to come back here and enjoy just like before. It is a wonderful place to be," he added.
Ashwin ended his career as India's second-highest Test wicket-taker with 537 Test wickets from 106 matches. He claimed 156 wickets in ODIs and 72 in T20Is.
