Williamson lavishes praise on incredible Iyer

Indian star batter Shreyas Iyer continues to reach new heights with his splendid batting performances one after another. Such was the case on Tuesday in Ahmedabad when he played a masterful innings of 97 runs unbeaten against Gujarat Titans to launch his side to a massive total of 243/5 in 20 overs. Iyer, who looked in stunning touch, slamming nine sixes, faced GTās pace artillery led by Kagiso Rabada, Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna fearlessly. Commenting on Iyerās performance, New Zealand stalwart Kane Williamson lauded Iyer, highlighting the tremendous improvement he has brought into his game.
āIt was a knock of the highest standard. From the very first ball, it was almost a highlight reelāhe played the ball exactly where it was meant to be hit. Anything outside off stump, he looked to access the offside, and he even struck sixes over cover against some of the best seamers in the world. Then, to take on Rashid Khan as well ā that's one of the toughest challenges in the game,ā Williamson said on JioHotstar.
Williamson also pointed out as to how he (Iyer) has evolved as a batter over the past few years.
"As a leader, to step in at No 3, set the tone, and take on the opposition's biggest threats was remarkable. That innings was truly out of this world,ā Williamson said..
āWhat stands out about Shreyas is how he continues to evolve his game. For a period, teams targeted him with short balls, but now, he's adjusting brilliantly -- getting deeper in his crease, de-weighting his front leg, and dominating the short-pitched deliveries."
"What is most impressive is his ability to shift his weight forward again, making it difficult for bowlers who try the āone-two' approach ā going short, then full. He's now able to access all areas of the ground, which makes him such a formidable batter."
