Though he participated in the next two games in spite of the injury, it finally put him on the sidelines. In his absence, legendary MS Dhoni will take the reins for the rest of the tournament. Speaking on his absence, Gaikwad said he was gutted not to be part of the remainder of the tournament.

Dhoni, who captained CSK between 2008 and 2024, will look to pull the team out of huge trouble as they are currently languishing at the bottom in the points table, with one win in five games.
