IPL 2025, LSG vs CSK: Legendary Dhoni launches CSK to victory

In a much-needed victory, Chennai Super Kings broke their five-match losing streak by defeating Lucknow Super Giants by five wickets on Monday in Lucknow. Chasing a target of 166 runs, CSK fought back from a wobbly middle-order collapse, with the legendary MS Dhoni stepping up to guide his side to a thrilling win.
CSK’s opening batters, Shaik Rasheed and Rachin Ravindra, provided the team with an explosive start, scoring 27 and 37 runs, respectively. Their partnership set a solid foundation for the chase. However, as has been the story of their recent form, CSK’s middle order failed to capitalise on the strong opening. Rahul Tripathi and Ravindra Jadeja struggled to assert control over the chase. Their dismissals put CSK in huge trouble.
Meanwhile, legendary Dhoni (26* off 11) took control of the chase. He wound back the clock with a series of classic shots, showcasing his brilliant class. Dhoni released the pressure with his glorious shots and steered the side to victory. Dhoni was not alone in this crucial partnership. Explosive batter Shivam Dube also played a vital supporting role, scoring an important 43 runs unbeaten.
Earlier, asked to bat, LSG posted a total of 166/7 in their 20 overs. Their innings was led by skipper Rishabh Pant, who played a solid innings. Pant registered his first IPL half-century. His 63 runs were crucial in ensuring LSG had a defendable total.
