“He's not a finisher”: Cheteshwar Pujara on Rishabh Pant

Veteran Indian cricketer Cheteshwar Pujara has criticised Rishabh Pant’s move to bat down the order during LSG’s defeat against Delhi Capitals on Tuesday in Lucknow. Pant came down to bat at no. 7, which utterly backfired, with DC bowlers orchestrating a stunning LSG batting collapse. Barring the openers Aiden Markram (52) and Mitchell Marsh (45), other LSG batters struggled to find the spark against DC’s disciplined bowling attack. Meanwhile, Pujara underlined that Pant should bat higher up the order, as he’s not a finisher.

"I genuinely don't know what the thought process was. But there's no doubt he should be batting higher up the order. He's trying to do what MS Dhoni does, but he's nowhere near it. I still feel he's someone who should be batting during the middle overs, between the 6th and 15th. He's not a finisher, and he shouldn't be doing the job of a finisher," Pujara said on ESPNcricinfo.

As of now, LSG are placed sixth in the points table with five wins from nine games. Against DC, LSG gathered 159 in 20 overs after a superb fightback from Markram and Marsh. Meanwhile, chasing a sizeable total of 159, DC’s KL Rahul anchored the innings, hitting 57 unbeaten. Earlier, Abishek Porel had set the platform with his impressive 51 off 36. LSG will next face Mumbai Indians on Sunday at Wankhede Stadium.
