Kushal Mendis to join GT as Buttler’s replacement for IPL playoffs

Sri Lankan wicketkeeper-batter Kusal Mendis, according to a report in ESPNcricinfo, is set to replace Jos Buttler at Gujarat Titans for the IPL playoffs, which are set to begin on May 29. Buttler, who is available for GT for three league matches, is slated to travel to England to participate in England’s white-ball series against West Indies, which is scheduled to get underway from May 29 – the same day IPL playoffs begin.
Kusal Mendis, who had been representing Quetta Gladiators at the PSL 2025 until last week, will not be returning to rejoin the side for the latter stages of the tournament. Meanwhile, Mendis has been in blistering form, scoring 143 runs for the Quetta Gladiators at a strike rate above 168 in five games and is likely to feature in GT’s playing XI. Currently, Titans are dominating the points table with eight wins in eleven games. They have 16 points and a positive NRR of +0.793. Anuj Rawat is the only other wicketkeeping option for Gujarat Titans apart from Mendis.
