“He’s recovered well”: Punjab Kings’ assistant coach provides update on Shreyas Iyer

Punjab Kings’ assistant coach Brad Haddin has expressed unwavering confidence in the team’s batting unit and underlined that being in Jaipur for a couple of weeks has helped them get acclimatised to the conditions. PBKS, who after earning their place in the IPL 2025 playoffs, are gearing up to face Delhi Capitals on Saturday in Jaipur. They successfully booked their place into the IPL playoffs on the back of a rollicking win against Rajasthan Royals.

“I think we’ve been lucky since we’ve arrived; it’s felt like home. Fifteen days at a certain place, you get familiar with the surroundings. We’re familiar now with what the surface is going to bring,” Haddin said during the press conference.

Haddin also shared an update on Shreyas Iyer, who batted at number five in the last game and later was subbed out ahead of the second innings following a finger injury.

"That was the circumstances the other day. It was a brave effort to actually take the field with how his finger was. So he still played a role, actually running around the boundary in the back half of the game. But yeah, he will go back to his normal position at No.3. He has been outstanding, not only as a batter but as a leader throughout the whole tournament."

Haddin touched upon Glenn Maxwell’s replacement Mitchell Owen, who lost his wicket for a duck in Punjab’s last match against Rajasthan Royals.

"I think the one thing Mitch brings is just sheer brute power. He has had over a week now to acclimatise to what he is going to get. He understands the conditions now. He is talking a lot to our Indian batsmen, he is talking a lot to the coaching staff. So expect Mitch with his next opportunity to play the way we want him to play."
