Mehidy Hasan Miraz has been named Bangladesh’s ODI captain, taking over from Najmul Hossain Shanto. Mehidy’s first assignment as the captain will be the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka next month. He will be at the helm for the next one year. So far, he has played 105 ODIs for Bangladesh, scoring 1,617 runs at an average of 24.87.

“Captaining the national team is a dream come true. I’m incredibly honoured by the trust the Board has placed in me. This is a proud moment for me and my family,” he said.

“I believe in this group, we have the skills and the mindset to play fearless cricket. I want us to express ourselves confidently, stay committed, and keep playing with heart for the country,” he further added.

Mehidy has previously led Bangladesh in four ODIs in the absence of the regular captain. Now, with Mehidy’s appointment, Bangladesh have three separate captains for all three formats. Litton Das is captain of the T20I side, while Najmul Hossain Shanto leads the Test side.
