South African batting coach Ashwell Prince has lauded Aiden Markram for his remarkable unbeaten century on Day 3 of the World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia at Lord’s. Markram’s 102 not out has propelled South Africa closer to a historic maiden ICC World title. South Africa, who are chasing 282 for victory, reached 213/2 at stumps on day 3, requiring just 69 more runs to secure their first ICC trophy.

"We certainly know he is someone for the big occasion; of that there is no doubt," Ashwell Prince said during the press conference.

"He has done little bit of technical work, but not a lot. In the last little while, he has had a tendency to push his hands away from his body and cut across the ball, but it was not a big fix, and as soon as he saw a few videos, it was quite simple."

In a pivotal innings, Markram anchored South Africa’s second innings with a composed century. His knock has played an instrumental role in taking the Proteas closer to victory. Skipper Temba Bavuma, who was hobbling, scored 65 unbeaten to play a greater role. Both Markram and Bavuma forged an unbeaten 143-run partnership.

"Temba is tough. Aiden has great respect for Temba. In fact, I think this team's greatest strength is the unity that they have in this camp… they are well aware that South Africa have had much greater individual players, but they've got something special going on in that dressing room, and that sort of helps them to drag each other along," Prince said.
