“When he plays they lose more”: Former England cricketer on Bumrah

There remains huge uncertainty whether Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah will play the fourth Test against England in Manchester or not because of his workload management. Ahead of the Test series against England, Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir had categorically said that Bumrah would feature in three of the five games, sitting out of two games. So far, Bumrah has played two games, making appearances in the first and third games – played at Headingley and Lord’s, respectively.

He missed the second game at Edgbaston, which India won by 336 runs. At the moment, India are trailing by 1-2 in the series after going down in the third game by 22 runs. Meanwhile, there are rumours that Bumrah could be rested for the Manchester showdown. Amid all this, former English cricketer David Lloyd, giving his opinion, has said Bumrah should not play the fourth Test because India lose more when he plays.

"That's extraordinary. There was something that said when he plays, they lose more than when he doesn't play, and he is like the best bowler in the world. And he is awkward and nasty with his action, but a thoroughly decent fella," Lloyd said on TalkSport Cricket.

Lloyd reckoned that if Bumrah plays the 4th Test and India manage to level the series 2-2, then he (Bumrah) could also play in the final Test at the Oval.

"It is what they've said and what the coach Gautam Gambhir said: that he will play three out of the five Tests. So, he's got a choice. There are two matches to go. He's played two. If they are true to their words, he should play this next game at Old Trafford. But then, you know, they can manoeuvre that, can't they? If he plays this next one at Old Trafford and they get a result to make it 2-2, you'd think he'd play at The Oval as well. I'm second-guessing, but I think he'll play this next game and see where they are. If England go 3-1, he won't play. But if it's 2-2, he will play at the Oval."
