Ex-Australian captain slams England's collapse against India

The highly competitive five-match Test series between India and England concluded in explosive fashion, with India clinching a thrilling six-run victory in the final Test to level the series 2-2. However, while India walked away with their heads held high, England’s campaign ended under a cloud, drawing sharp criticism from former Australian captain Michael Clarke.

Heading into the final Test, India trailed 1-2 in the series, needing a win to avoid a series defeat. And they delivered when it mattered most. Reacting to the result, Michael Clarke didn’t hold back in his assessment of England’s performance.

"This England team, I think, 2-2 draw in your own backyard, if I'm captain of that team, I'm disappointed with that result. I want to win, especially in my own conditions. I think they would've come into the series expecting to win," Clarke said on Beyond23 Cricket Podcast.

This series also marked the beginning of a fresh era for Indian cricket following the retirements of modern-day greats Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli

ā€œI’m not taking India lightly, but I think they’ve overachieved, particularly with the lead-up to the series. If India lost the series, people would’ve respected and understood that. New captain, two of their most senior players not playing Test cricket, the best bowler in the world playing only three of the five matches… I think England would have gone into the series expecting to win. India have overperformed. To level the series 2-2, that’s definitely a win for India in my opinion,ā€ said Clarke.
