Former Pakistan batter feels Babar shouldn’t be compared with Kohli

Pakistan’s batting star Babar Azam once again disappointed his fans after he registered horrible figures in the recently concluded three-match ODI series against West Indies, which Pakistan lost 1-2. Babar’s struggle was on full display as he consistently failed to produce a fine innings, registering depressing scores across the three outings. Amid his lean patch, former Pakistan batter Ahmed Shehzad, who in the past has launched scathing attacks on Babar for his captaincy and batting, feels that Babar should not be compared with Virat Kohli

“When everything was going well, you were running campaigns comparing players. Now that the performances are not coming, you are saying, ‘Don’t compare two players. ’ Why not? Virat Kohli’s comparison cannot be made with anyone in the world. He is a legend of this generation, a role model," Shehzad said in an interview as reported by Times of India.

“You cannot compare him even with MS Dhoni. Dhoni may have been a great captain, but as a batter, cricketer, and athlete, Kohli stands alone. No one should be compared with anyone because it’s unfair and it adds extra pressure, which we are now seeing on Babar Azam," he added.

Often in the past, Babar Azam has been compared with Virat Kohli due to the former’s exceptional game between June 2019 and August 2023. Meanwhile, it’s now been 72 innings since Babar last notched up a century across the formats. While Virat Kohli’s beautiful career is defined by his masterful innings, Babar Azam has been unable to play a meaningful knock in recent times. Notably, he scored his last century in an ODI against Nepal in August 2023.
