R Ashwin announces retirement from Indian Premier League
Veteran Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has called time on his Indian Premier League career. Ashwin has already retired from International cricket and was last seen in the IPL 2025, playing for Chennai Super Kings. In his IPL career, Ashwin represented Delhi Capitals, Rising Pune Supergiant and Rajasthan Royals. He also captained Kings XI Punjab.
"Special day and hence a special beginning. They say every ending will have a new start, my time as an IPL cricketer comes to a close today, but my time as an explorer of the game around various leagues begins today," Ashwin wrote on X.
"Would like to thank all the franchisees for all the wonderful memories and relationships over the years and most importantly the @IPL and the @BCCI for what they have given me until now. Look forward to enjoying and making the most of what's ahead of me," Ashwin stated.
Ashwin, who made his IPL debut in 2009 with the Chennai Super Kings, played 221 matches in the high-profile league, taking 187 wickets at an economy of 7.20. Ashwin finishes as the fifth-highest wicket-taker in the IPL.
