"Umpires can make mistakes": Salman Agha on Fakhar Zaman's dismissal
Pakistan captain Salman Agha brought up the dismissal of opener Fakhar Zaman that took place during the Asia Cup Super Four clash between India and Pakistan on Sunday in Dubai. The dismissal, which came just as Fakhar was threatening to take the game away from India, sparked discussion over whether the catch taken by Indian wicketkeeper Sanju Samson was clean.
Fakhar Zaman, on the other hand, wasted no time setting the tone. He raced to 15 runs off just eight deliveries, cracking three boundaries and immediately putting pressure on the Indian bowlers. However, the turning point arrived when Pandya, using his variation, rolled his fingers over the ball, causing it to move slightly off the pitch. The delivery drew an outside edge from Fakhar, and with little pace on it, Samson had to lean forward to complete the catch. After having a glance, the TV umpire concluded that Samson had taken the catch cleanly, with his gloves appearing to get under the ball just in time.
"I don’t know about the decision. It's obviously (the) umpire's job. Umpires can make mistakes, and I have no problem with that. To me, it looked like it bounced (ahead of the keeper), but I might be wrong.
"The way he was batting, if he had batted through the powerplay, we would probably have scored 190. But those are umpires' calls. To me, it looked like it bounced before the keeper. but I can be wrong as well."
Meanwhile, India beat Pakistan by six wickets, overhauling a target of 172 in 18.5 overs, with Abhishek Sharma rising to the occasion with a superb 74-run knock.
