Ganguly urges Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to prioritise fitness and domestic cricket

Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly has offered some valuable advice to Indian stalwarts Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli as they approach the final stages of their illustrious careers. Ganguly emphasised the importance of maintaining peak fitness and continuing to perform consistently if the duo wishes to prolong their international career leading up to the ODI World Cup 2027. Ganguly also suggested that the two veterans should participate in domestic cricket whenever possible.
With both Rohit and Kohli having already announced their retirements from Test and T20I formats, their international presence is now limited to ODIs. Notably, their last outing for India came during the ICC Champions Trophy earlier this year.
"As I said, it depends on how fit they (Rohit and Virat) remain and how much performance they keep doing. Whatever opportunity they get, they have to play domestic cricket. Because cricket is a sport where you have to keep playing — otherwise, you lose the touch and the form and the contact. It is everything in life. You have to keep doing it. They have to play domestic cricket. That’s what it is. If they keep doing and performing, they will play for India,” Ganguly said as quoted by the Indian Express.
Both Rohit and Kohli will now be seen in the ODI series against Australia later this month. And the upcoming ODI series against Australia will be a litmus test for both players, as they return to the Indian team for the first time since the Champions Trophy.
