Pratika Rawal ruled out of Women’s World Cup 2025, Shafali Verma named replacement
In a major setback for India ahead of the knockout stage of the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025, opener Pratika Rawal has been ruled out of the remainder of the tournament due to an injury sustained during the final league match against Bangladesh on Sunday.
The incident occurred in the rain-affected clash at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, where Rawal slipped while attempting to stop a boundary near the ropes. The young star appeared to twist her knee awkwardly and was immediately taken off the field for medical assessment. Meanwhile, the ICC has approved India's request to add Shafali Verma to the squad as the replacement for Pratika Rawal on Monday, October 27.
"The Event Technical Committee of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 has approved Shafali Verma as a replacement for Pratika Rawal in the India squad. Verma was named as a replacement after Rawal was ruled out after sustaining an injury to her right ankle while fielding in the league match against Bangladesh on Sunday The replacement of a player requires the approval of the Event Technical Committee before the replacement player can be officially added to the squad."
"The Event Technical committee of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 consists of Wasim Khan (Chair, ICC General Manager - Cricket), Gaurav Saxena (ICC General Manager – Events & Corporate Communications), Abey Kuruvilla (BCCI Tournament Director), Mel Jones (Independent nominee)," the statement from ICC stated.
Pratika Rawal performed brilliantly in the previous games of the World Cup, scoring 308 runs in six innings at an average of 51.33, including a match-winning century against New Zealand and a significant 75 against Australia.
