New Zealand call Kyle Jamieson as cover amid injury woes

As the injury woes in the New Zealand camp grows with each passing day, they have called in pacer Kyle Jamieson as the cover for Matt Henry who is awaiting results on his right hamstring. Lockie Ferguson also missed New Zealand’s match against South Africa on Wednesday where New Zealand suffered a 190-run defeat that came as a big blow to their smooth World Cup campaign. Ferguson missed the game against South Africa due to “Achilles” injury. In the statement from New Zealand cricket, it was stated that there is no significant damage after the scans on his right Achilles. Ferguson will most likely make his return to the team in their match against Pakistan. New Zealand, meanwhile, are going through a losing streak after starting on a steady note in their campaign of the World Cup. Skipper Kane Williamson too remains on the sidelines following his thumb injury.
“The severity of Matt’s injury, combined with a short turnaround to Pakistan, meant we couldn’t risk being a bowler down for Saturday,” said New Zealand’s coach Gary Stead.
“Kyle’s on his way over as we speak and we look forward to welcoming him back into the group. He’ll likely train with us on Friday with a mind to be available for Saturday’s game."
“Kyle was able to train for two full weeks with us earlier in the tournament and has since played a Plunket Shield match - so we’re confident he’ll be able to hit the ground running,” said Stead.
