Australian legend Ricky Ponting was left impressed by the sensational century-filled knock by Travis Head during Australia’s World Cup final match against India on Sunday at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Travis Head’s 192-run stand alongside Marnus Labuschagne gave no room to India to put them under pressure. Travis Head’s clam and composed innings kept Australia’s scoreboard ticking after they lost their three top batters in quick succession. Ponting showered praises on Travis for his meticulous knock that brought Australia the World Cup title.

“Travis is emerging as one of the three or four best all-format players in the world. His Test record is outstanding. He is unorthodox at times [in one-day cricket] and you wonder how he will get past the new ball, but he does and scores big runs,” Ponting said while speaking to Sky Sports.

Travis Head took Australia to their record sixth ODI World Cup title with Australia’s six-wicket win over dominant India, who before their loss in the final, hadn’t lost any match throughout the tournament. Travis Head, however missed out on scoring winning runs but he did the job with his 137-run knock. Travis Head also became the third Australian batter after Adam Gilchrist and Ricky Ponting to score a hundred in ODI World Cup final.
