Sunil Narine rules out international return

West Indies veteran Sunil Narine has ruled out any possible comeback to international cricket ahead of the upcoming T20I World Cup 2024, to be played in West Indies and USA from June 1. Sunil Narine has been up to the task in the ongoing Indian Premier League for Kolkata Knight Riders, having blasted a whopping 286 runs in last seven matches, and also returned with nine wickets.
Explosive Narine, who last appeared for West Indies in August 2019, retired from International cricket in November 2023. Recently, West Indies skipper Rovman Powell, playing for Rajasthan Royals in the IPL, had said he was trying to talk Narine out of retirement, but Narine has clarified his stand, putting all speculations to rest. Narine has stated âthat door is now closedâ.
"I'm truly flattered and humbled that my performances recently have moved many people to publicly express their wish for me to come out of retirement and play in the upcoming T20 World Cup," Narine said in the statement.
"I have made peace with that decision and whilst I never wish to disappoint, that door is now closed and I will be supporting the guys who take the field in June for West Indies. Guys who have worked hard for the past few months and deserve to show our wonderful fans that they are capable of winning another title - I wish you all the best," he added.
