Ice-cool Shai Hope stars in WI’s comprehensive win over USA

United States’ prospects of making it to the semi-final has taken a huge hit after they were slammed to a 9-wicket loss by West Indies on Saturday at Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados. United States, after being asked to bat, struggled to find their footing against the disciplined West Indian bowling attack, finishing with a modest total of 128 as they were bowled out in 19.1 overs.
Andre Russell and Roston Chase did the work for West Indies, putting USA on the back foot with their three scalps each. Andries Gous and Nitish Kumar top-scoring with 29 and 20 respectively gave USA something to fight for. West Indies bowlers didn’t allow USA batters to find much-needed fluency in their scoring, with all big-hitters failing to find their rhythm.
Chasing 129 for victory, West Indies maintained an aggressive approach, with Shai Hope clubbing 82 unbeaten off 39 in a swasbuckling knock that carried eye-catching 8 sixes and four boundaries. Hope came out all guns blazing, taking full advantage of the powerplay and pounding USA bowlers all over the ground. Johnson Charles, meanwhile lost his wickets after scoring 15, but dangerous Nicholas Pooran, alongside Shai Hope, remained unbeaten on 27 off 15, taking the side to a brilliant 9-wicket victory. West Indies brought up 130/1 in 10.5 overs.
