IND vs SL 3rd T20I: Suryakumar Yadav on Rinku Singh bowling the 19th over

Indian skipper Suryakumar Yadav’s faith in Rinku Singh, who was entrusted with the task to bowl the 19th over in India’s third and final T20I against Sri Lanka on Tuesday, paid off after Rinku Singh only gave away two runs while taking two wickets. Sri Lanka had needed only 9 runs off 12 balls when Rinku Singh came to bowl the penultimate over.

The gamble by Yadav produced a positive result as game went into the last over which was bowled by skipper Suryakumar Yadav himself. Yadav too remained quite economical, leaking 5 runs and claiming two wickets to force the game into the Super Over.

In the Super Over, India dominated Lanka to clinch a thrilling victory. Revealing the reason behind Rinku Singh bowling the 19th over, Yadav said that the decision was difficult but Rinku Singh was the fitting bowler to bowl the 19th over.

“The decision for the 20th over was easy, the difficult part was for the 19th over. Siraj and few others had their overs left. But I felt Rinku was better suited for that wicket because I have seen him bowling and I made him practice a lot at the nets. I felt it was right and that is why I took that call,” Yadav said.

“I knew the 19th over has always been difficult for Indian cricket (laughs). That is why I gave the responsibility to Rinku. For a right-hander bowling to a left-hander, it is always difficult for the batter. It was great that he made the best use of his skill and made my work easy because now I have one more bowling option going forward,” he stated.
