TNPL 2024, Final: R Ashwin lifts Dindigul Dragons to their maiden title win

Dindigul Dragons’ TNPL title drought has finally come to an end as they were lifted to their maiden title win by their skipper Ravichandaran Ashwin, who played a match-winning knock of (52) to help Dindigul Dragons outplay LYCA Kovai Kings by six wickets in the final on Sunday at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai. On the other hand, Lyca Kovai Kings’ TNPL title defence came to a chastening end as Dindigul Dragons dominated them from the get-go.
Dragons’ chase of (130) began on a shaky note after they lost both of their openers for low scores, setting the stage for what appeared to be a challenging pursuit of the target. However, the middle-order batters showcased their mettle under pressure in the form of R Ashwin and Baba Indrajith putting the team back into the game. Indrajith departed after contributing (32), but R Ashwin continued with his assault to put the team on the path of victory.
Earlier, Put into bat, Lyca Kovai Kings struggled to find their rhythm as the Dragons’ bowlers maintained a tight grip throughout the innings. Despite a promising start by opener S Sujay scoring (22 off 12), Kings’ batting lineup faltered, failing to form substantial partnerships. Somehow, Kovai Kings managed to get a modest total of 129 for 7 in 20 overs. Ram Arvindh and Atheeq Ur Rahman gave much-needed help with their scores of (27) and (25) respectively.
