David Warner signs two-year deal with Sydney Thunder

Australia’s retired opener David Warner has signed a two-year deal with Sydney Thunder, committing to be available for the full Big Bash League (BBL) season with the franchise. This deal marks a major development for Thunder as they now have a full-fledged squad for the upcoming season.
His former Australian teammates Marnus Labuschagne and Alex Carey have also penned new deals with Brisbane Heat and Adelaide Strikers respectively. This is for the first time that Warner will be committing himself to the full BBL season following his international retirement earlier this year. Superstar Steve Smith has also signed a three-year deal with Sydney Sixers.
“[There's a] great bunch of people, a great coach and I've always been a part of Thunder," Warner said as quoted in a Thunder release.
"I really liked the environment last year, the group we had brought a lot of energy. This year, I think we can go a couple of steps better," added Warner.
"Davey is popular wherever he plays, right around the world, particularly in India and I know the South Asian communities in Sydney's west will get right behind him at Thunder," the Thunder general manager, Trent Copeland, said.
"In Davey we get a world class talent with almost 20 years of T20 experience and now that he has retired from international cricket, we can count on his full focus and commitment for the entire tournament, including the finals."
Australian Test stars Steve Smith, Alex Carey and Marnus Labuschagne will be available following the conclusion of high-profile Border-Gavaskar-Trophy against India at home.
