“Viable captaincy option”: Cheteshwar Pujara praises Jasprit Bumrah

Indian veteran batter Cheteshwar Pujara has heaped praises on fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah by saying that star pacer is the ideal option for captaincy in the long-run once incumbent skipper Rohit Sharma decides to step down. Pujara’s remarks follow India’s outstanding 295-run win in the first Test against Australia under the leadership of Jasprit Bumrah. He had led India in the absence of Rohit Sharma, who missed the first Test due to the birth of his second child.

Bumrah had turbocharged his efforts with the ball as well, taking eight wickets across both innings to demolish Australia’s sturdy batting line-up.

"He is (a viable long term captaincy option) without any doubt. The way he has showed that in difficult circumstances when we had a tough series at home and when you are playing a first Test match in Australia and to put up a show like that. I think he has the capability of leading the team and he's a team's man. You look at him he doesn’t talk about himself, he talks about the team, the other players. What advice he would want to give," Pujara said on ESPNcricinfo.

Pujara also highlighted Bumrah’s humble nature.

"There are times when players don't need advise and he accepts it, he says that.. if there is an experienced player he will keep quiet. That is the sign of a good captain.
