Mumbai Indians head coach Jayawardene provides update on Bumrah ahead of IPL 2025

Mumbai Indians head coach Mahela Jayawardene didn’t provide any particular timeline on Jasprit Bumrah’s return to IPL but admitted that he (Bumrah) will be missing a few initial games of the tournament. IPL is set to start from March 22 and Mumbai Indians will be taking on Chennai Super Kings in their opening match of the season on March 23.
“Jasprit Bumrah is at the NCA. He has just started his progress. We have to wait and see what their (BCCI medical team) feedback is on him. At the moment, everything is going well. But, obviously, it is on a day-to-day basis. He is in good spirits. Not having him is a challenge. He is one of the best bowlers in the world and he has been a fantastic pro for us for many years”, Jayawardene said during the press conference on Wednesday.
“We’ll have to wait or find an opportunity for someone else to step up. That’s how I see it. It gives us an element of trying a few things and see how things work. The early part of the season allows us to do that.”
Bumrah has been recovering from a back injury that ruled him out of India’s campaign at the Champions Trophy. He has been on the sidelines since January after suffering back spasms during the final Test against Australia in Sydney, which also ruled him out of the white-ball home series against England.
