PBKS down RCB in rain-affected showdown

In a pulsating yet rain-impacted 34th match of the Indian Premier League, Punjab Kings cruised to a five-wicket victory over Royal Challengers Bengaluru on Friday at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. The match, which had been shortened to 14 overs per side due to rain, saw the RCB struggle to post a competitive total, which Punjab comfortably chased down with 11 balls to spare.

Asked to bat, RCB were put under pressure right from the start. The rain-affected conditions didn’t help their cause, and they quickly found themselves trapped in huge trouble. Despite the presence of some big names in the lineup, it was the power-hitting abilities of Tim David that kept the scoreboard ticking for RCB.

David played a sizzling knock, top-scoring with 50 runs off 26 balls, which became the backbone of their innings. However, the rest of the lineup failed to contribute. But captain Rajat Patidar managed to score 23 runs to take the side to 95/9 in 14 overs. For PBKS, Marco Jansen, Arshdeep Singh, Brar and Yuzvendra Chahal took two wickets each.

Chasing down the modest target of 96 runs, Punjab set off with confidence, with Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh scoring 16 and 13, respectively. Despite losing wickets along the way, PBKS were never in danger of losing the game, with each batter contributing significantly. The standout performance came from Nehal Wadhera who fired 33 runs to take the side to victory. Punjab finished at 98/5.
