England have revealed their white-ball squads for their upcoming assignments against South Africa, followed by a home T20I series against Ireland.

Starting 2 September at Headingley, England will host South Africa for three ODIs followed by three T20Is. Later, they will face Ireland in a three-match T20I series beginning in Malahide from September 17. Harry Brook, who is England’s regular white-ball skipper, will lead the side against South Africa. However, he will be rested for the Ireland tour, with Jacob Bethell being named skipper for the tour of Ireland. 

“Jacob Bethell has impressed with his leadership qualities ever since he has been with the England squads and the series against Ireland will provide him with the opportunity to further develop those skills on the international stage,” England selector Luke Wright said in a statement.

This marks Jacob Bethell’s first stint as captain for England, making him the youngest-ever men’s captain. Notably, for the Ireland series, England have rested several senior players, giving Bethell and young stars the chance to shine.
