Indian cricket stalwarts Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have been named in India’s ODI squad for the upcoming three-match series against Australia, which kicks off on October 19. This marks their comeback to international cricket following their last appearance in the Champions Trophy final in March. Meanwhile, the biggest headline from the selection is the shift in leadership – Shubman Gill has been appointed as the new ODI captain, replacing Rohit Sharma. Shreyas Iyer has been appointed his deputy. Notably, both Rohit and Kohli announced their Test retirements earlier this year in May.

All-rounder Hardik Pandya and star pacer Jasprit Bumrah were rested for the ODIs, with speedster Mohammed Siraj making a comeback to the ODIs after being overlooked for the ICC Champions Trophy earlier this year.

India also named the T20I squad, which will be led by Suryakumar Yadav. India have largely stuck with the same group that clinched the Asia Cup title last month. The only change sees all-rounder Hardik Pandya being replaced by Nitish Kumar Reddy. Washington Sundar has also been added to the T20I squad.

India's ODI squad for Australia: Shubman Gill (c), Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer (vc), Axar Patel, KL Rahul (wk), Nitish Kumar Reddy, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, Harshit Rana, Mohammed Siraj, Arshdeep Singh, Prasidh Krishna, Dhruv Jurel (wk), Yashasvi Jaiswal

India's T20I squad for Australia: Suryakumar Yadav (c), Abhishek Sharma, Shubman Gill (vc), Tilak Varma, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Shivam Dube, Axar Patel, Jitesh Sharma (wk), Varun Chakaravarthy, Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav, Harshit Rana, Sanju Samson (wk), Rinku Singh, Washington Sundar
