Jos Buttler on Harry Brook’s prospects for ODI World Cup
England’s red-ball skipper Ben Stokes was included into England’s provisional World Cup squad when he decided to reverse his ODI retirement which he had taken in July last year due to workload. With Stokes making it to England’s World Cup squad, young Harry Brook missed out on his chances of being into the World Cup squad. But, England’s white-ball skipper Jos Buttler has said that Brook could still be in the proceedings even after having failed to make it to the squad. Recently, Harry Brook played a marvellous knock in The Hundred Competition where he smashed 41-ball century.
“There’s still a long time before everyone’s meant to get on the plane, so we’ll wait and see what happens. We all know Harry’s a fantastic player and we saw what he can do the other night. It’s not like it’s a surprise, we know what a brilliant player he is,” Buttler said on Friday.
Ben Stokes had played a key role with his all-round performance in England’s comprehensive victory at the ODI World Cup 2019. This time, however, Stokes will be playing as a specialist batter. Upon Stokes addition into the squad, Buttler feels that Stokes’ coming back changes the dynamic.
“He’s just the unfortunate one at the moment to not be in that squad. Ben Stokes coming back and being available just as a batter changes the dynamic a little bit. Ben’s a fantastic player to be able to welcome back, so it’s a really tough selection,” Buttler said.
