Tom Latham provides update on Kane Williamson
New Zealand will be clashing with South Africa on Wednesday at Maharastra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune in their World Cup match. Ahead of the match, New Zealand’s stand-in skipper Tom Latham has provided the update on the availability of regular captain Kane Williamson who has been on the sidelines due to injury. In Williamson’s absence, Tom Latham has captained the team. alongside skipper Kane Williamson, Lockie Ferguson too has been the victim of recurring injuries. Williamson has only played one match in the tournament so far after making his long-awaited return from knee injury. In the ongoing ODI World Cup, Williamson made his appearance against Bangladesh where he played a good knock of (78) to take the side over the line. In the same match, Williamson picked up thumb injury that put him on the sidelines for the next matches.
“Yeah, just as I said before, there’s Lockie, Kane and Mark Chapman. We’ll obviously get through hopefully a bit of work today and then we’ll see how they pull up from a selection point of view. But Yeah, obviously, Lockie went off in the last game with a bit of Achilles’ niggle, so fingers crossed he’ll be fine for tomorrow,” said Tom Latham during the pre-match press conference.
New Zealand have been in great rhythm with their high-powered performances but at the same time South Africa have also been incredibly adamant in their performance while outplaying the likes of Australia and Pakistan. Going into this match, both teams are quite a balanced sides with the availability of tremendous batters, bowlers and all-rounders.
