New Zealand thrashed Sri Lanka by five wickets on Thursday at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium to almost make it to the semi-final of the World Cup. With their comfortable victory, New Zealand have not but all sealed their place in the semi-final of the World Cup. Asked to bat, Sri Lanka were bowled out for (171) after New Zealand's Trent Boult returned with three wickets. For Sri Lanka, Kusal Perera top-scored with his 51-run knock to push the team to (171). Sri Lanka, meanwhile, were playing for pride after their elimination from the tournament. New Zealand, in their chase got a steady start with Devon Conway (45) and Rachin Ravindra (42) stitching an 86-run stand to help the team. In the middle, Daryl Mitchell scored (43) runs while Glenn Phillips finished the job with his quick 17-run knock. New Zealand chased down the total in (23.2) overs after losing five wickets. New Zealand's early win would also help them in their net run rate as it will provide them huge consolidation. New Zealand, with this win, have successfully bounced back after having suffered four defeats in a row.
