“As if he incurred a loss”: Former Pakistan star slams Haris Rauf
Pakistan conceded the biggest upset in their opening match of the T20I World Cup, after USA delivered a stunning performance to beat Pakistan by 5 runs, sealing a Super Over thriller. Haris Rauf's expensive spell stood out as a critical element in the game's outcome. Haris Rauf, one of Pakistan’s prime bowlers, was tasked to defend 15 off last over, but uncharacteristically, he conceded 14 runs, leading the game to the Super Over.
Rauf's figures were the most expensive of the day, leaking runs at an alarming rate. Remarking on Pakistan;s heavy loss, former Pakistan cricketer Salman Butt slammed Haris Rauf for maintaining inconsistency.
"He (Haris Rauf) has some weird style when he bowls a ball and just sits on his knees with his hand on his head. It is as if he incurred a loss in shares or someone robbed him. But that is so unprofessional. You never learn anything. They lacked common sense and game awareness," Butt said on ‘Cricket Baithak’ podcast.
“It is not a surprise that he conceded so many runs because he doesn't look at his field and bowl accordingly. Mid off is inside the circle and yet he bowls full and gets hit for a boundary on the last ball. You can see the captain also screamed at him. When you have mid-off up, then you don't bowl full balls. This is a basic of cricket."
In the Super Over, USA posted 18, meanwhile Pakistan struggled to go past even Super Over's total, thus losing the game by 5 runs. Pakistan’s next match is against arch-rivals India on Sunday.
