Starc reflects on Australia’s early exit and Rohit Sharma’s knock at T20I WC

Australia's campaign at the T20I World Cup 2024 was nothing short of a disaster, as they were unable to progress to the semi-final, failing to be able to give tough fight to the opposition teams. Despite being one of the tournament favourites, their performance was marked by inconsistency and underwhelming displays.
From the outset, Australia struggled to find their rhythm. Their batting lineup, typically known for its explosive power and reliability, faltered under pressure. Notable players were unable to deliver significant contributions.
Australia, after their defeat against Afghanistan, had landed themselves in a massive trouble as they had to win their match against India to remain alive in the tournament. But, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma’s whirlwind 92-run knock guided India to a beautiful victory. Glancing at Australia’s early exit, star pacer Mitchell Starc recalled the face-off against Indian skipper Rohit Sharma.
"I have played a lot against him. He had a good tournament, especially at the back end. I think he targeted that wind in St Lucia as well. It was the one end that went for lot more than the other. I think I had five bad balls and he hit them all for six,” Starc said on the Willow Talk podcast
This unexpected early exit was a significant setback for Australia as India’s 24-run win over them made it impossible for Australia to make it to the semi-final.
“We thought it was a little bit over par, but it was the best wicket in the World Cup which we played on in terms of runs scored. It wasn’t probably the quickest wicket in the West Indies but definitely the best wicket which we played on. Certainly chaseable. We were on target for a while but a couple of hiccups and some good bowling from them set us back,” Starc said.
