“I don't see any problem especially with these two”: Ashish Nehra on Gambhir-Kohli relationship

Evidently, there has been a long-standing friction between Gautam Gambhir and batting superstar Virat Kohli, but now, with the appointment of Gautam Gambhir as the new head coach of India, there have been widespread discussions as to how both of them will work cohesively in order to take India forward.

It is clear that their relationship will face a major test, having already witnessed their past on-field altercations. Gambhir’s appointment necessitates that both navigate their past differences and work cordially.

Recently, former Indian pacer Ashish Nehra said that both Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli are matured personalities and their past differences will have no impact when they work together. Nehra called Gambhir an upfront and transparent personality.

“You are talking about Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli. They are two passionate people. When they will play for any team, they are against the opposition. But when they are together in a dress room, they are together. Here you are talking about Virat Kohli who is 36-37 years old. He has that much experience. Gautam Gambhir has also gained more experience,” Nehra said in a conversation on Sports Today.

“And I agree with the fact that the burden is felt by people. And it's not like that Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli, there are so many players who have been selected. But when they are playing for the same team, they have done a great job as a player. And you will see this in coach and captain and coach and senior players. Because Gautam Gambhir is that kind of personality, he is upfront, transparent which is great, he talks in front. That is very important. I mean, see, there is a different style of the players to operate either coach, captain or player. But I don't see any problem especially with these two and where they are in their careers,” Nehra said.
