Sanju Samson speaks on his exclusion

For Indian wicket-keeper batter Sanju Samson, the journey with team India has been a rollercoaster ride, often finding himself on the fringes, remaining in and out of the team. However, despite having a good record, Samson has struggled to cement his place in Indian team. The notable stance of Samson’s absence came when he was excluded from India’s squad for the ODI World Cup last year.

However, Samson was recently included in India’s T20I World Cup squad, but disappointingly, he did not get a chance to showcase his skills. More Recently, he was excluded from India’s ODI series against Sri Lanka. Management, instead brought Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul into the squad. Opening up about his exclusions, Sanju Samson said he isn’t concerned about it as long as team is winning.

“When they call me to play, I go and play. If not, it’s okay. I don’t overthink it. The team is doing well, so there’s no issue. I prefer to stay positive and focus on what I can control. I put maximum effort into my practice and hard work, which is improving my game,” Samson said on Zee TV.

More often than not, Samson’s exclusion has led to widespread discussions, but he remains optimistic and plays the role management asks him to play. Samson was also part of India’s five-match T20I series against Zimbabwe last month where India were led by Shubman Gill. In that series, Samson got to play three games. Overall, Samson since his debut in 2015, has played 30 T20Is and 16 ODIs for India.
