Asia Cup 2025: India look to fine-tune their combinations in a dead rubber against Sri Lanka

India and Sri Lanka are set to face off in the last match of Super Four in the ongoing Asia Cup on Friday at Dubai International Cricket Stadium. The match holds little consequence for the outcome of the tournament, as it is a "dead rubber" encounter. With Sri Lanka already eliminated from the competition and India securing their place in the final with an unbeaten run, the stakes are incredibly low.
India have enjoyed a dominant campaign so far, cruising through the group stage and Super Four phase with a series of clinical performances. Their top order, led by firebrand Abhishek Sharma, has fired consistently, and the bowling unit has shown sharpness, remaining equally impressive.
Now, with their place in the final already assured, Indian side will use this match as an opportunity to test bench strength and fine-tune their combinations ahead of the blockbuster showdown against Pakistan in the final on Sunday. Players like Harshit Rana, Arshdeep Singh and Rinku Singh could be given game time. However, India will also be wary of losing momentum ahead of a crucial final.
Sri Lanka, who have already been eliminated from the tournament, will be playing for pride. A mix of inconsistent batting and underwhelming performances led to their early exit from the tournament. Their campaign was effectively derailed after back-to-back defeats in the Super Four stage against Bangladesh and Pakistan, respectively. Meanwhile, despite their exit, Sri Lanka will be keen to finish the tournament on a high note.
