BBL 2023: Energetic start for Brisbane Heat with the win over Maxwell’s Stars
Recording a tremendous start to their Big Bash League campaign, Brisbane Heat annihilated Melbourne Stars by (103) runs in the opening match of the tournament on Thursday at The Gabba. Asked to bat, Brisbane Heat had a commanding start to their innings with Usman Khawaja and Colin Munro playing the most effective innings with their scores of (28) and (99*) respectively. Colin Munro remained unbeaten to steer the team to a gigantic total. Colin Munro, however, fell one-run short of his century. He scored (99) off (61). Marnus Labuschagne also directed the side in a positive direction with his crucial (30) runs. Brisbane Heat finished on 214/3 in (20) overs. Chasing the total, Melbourne Stars lost their openers Tom Rogers and Sam Harper in quick succession as they both could only manage to score (1) and (4) runs respectively. There was a little bit of fighting back from Joe Burns and Glenn Maxwell who both scored (22) and (23) runs respectively, but they too lost their wickets. Marcus Stoinis couldn’t get going after he managed (2) runs. Down the order, Melbourne Stars kept losing their wickets as they finished on (111) in (15.1) overs. For Brisbane Heat, Mitchell Swepson took three wickets followed by Xavier Bartlett and Michael Neser taking two wickets each.
