Travis Head and Josh Hazlewood got along to help Australia counter West Indies on day two of the first Test match on Thursday at Adelaide Oval. Travis Head’s massive 119-run score put Australia out of misery which was inflicted by West Indies debutant Shamar Joseph returning with maiden five-wicket haul in Test. Australia were finally bowled out for 283 in their first innings, but they had successfully released the pressure with the help of Travis Head.

Australia had resumed their innings for 59-2 on day two, but they failed to fathom the onslaught which West Indies bowlers came up with. Australia struggled at 168-6 with West Indies debutants Shamar Joseph (five wickets) and Justin Greaves (two wickets) shining on their first assignment.

Charged Travis Head faced West Indies upfront while surviving few close calls. But his handsome century seems to have pushed Australia towards registering a big win. It was Head’s seventh Test century.

Hazlewood, meanwhile, toppled West Indies’ top order, trapping opener Tagenarine Chanderpaul for (0) on his very first ball of the innings. Hazlewood claimed the wickets of Kraigg Brathwaite, Alick Athanaze and Kavem Hodge. Earlier, Australian batters failed to repeat the Pakistan show with all big guns Mitchell Marsh, Cameron Green and Alex Carey failing to help Australia. On day two at stumps, West Indies were 73/6.
